| Description |
This monument memorializes the men (and one woman) from Anstruther Easter and Anstruther Wester who died in WWI. It is located on the Anstruther Golf Course.
16 Sep 2013 (mahyland) - According to the sources listed below, this war memorial is a "baronial tower" designed by the St Andrews architect Anderson, built by James Thomson of St Monans, and sculpted by John Thomson of Leven. It cost £550 to build. It was unveiled on Christmas Day in 1921 and memorializes the people of Anstruther Easter and Wester who died in WWI. Around Scotland, such coastal memorials were often built as towers so that they could serve as points of bearing for sailors returning to harbour. The Anstruther Golf Course website refers to it as "Monument" in the context of some of their holes. A book was written that includes information about the people commemorated on the memorial.
