| The Carleton Fishery was built at Lendalfoot in 1832 (Ballantrae.org.uk, 2023). The site consists of a row of small, terraced fishing cottages situated on the landward side of the main road. At the coast edge is a concrete slipway leading to the beach and a cleared landing place lined with boulders on either side, marked on historic mapping as 'Carleton Port'. To the edge of the slipway sits a disused cast iron winch, marked 'David Brown'. On the rocky coast edge at the waters edge are the ramshackled remains of fishing sheds. In the nearby vegetation is the wooden remains of a boat. The cottages are marked on the OS Six Inch (surveyed 1855) and OS 25 Inch (surveyed 1894) mapping and named as the Carleton Fishery, however, the fishing sheds are not marked. |
