Research and SCAPE

SCAPE works very closely with the University of St Andrews and Historic Environment Scotland in our research on Scotland’s coastal heritage. We are particularly interested in where and how Scotland’s heritage is being affected by natural coastal processes and how climate change may affect this in the future. We work with volunteers across Scotland to collect and document change to coastal sites and coastlines. This tells us about wider coastal and environmental change, and also gives us the information needed to prioritise action at the most vulnerable and significant sites. We take the view that eroding coastal heritage is a resource for people to learn from and enjoy. In partnership with communities we have undertaken many projects that do just this.
